MHL stands for Mobile High-Definition Link. An MHL adapter is a hardware bridge—usually a dongle or a specific cable—that allows you to connect a compatible smartphone or tablet directly to a larger screen, like a TV, monitor, or projector, typically via an HDMI port.

Essentially, it takes the video and audio signal from a mobile device's charging port (historically Micro-USB, and later some USB-C devices) and translates it into an HDMI signal that a standard display can understand.
